What was the question, again?

Let's face it, 80% of the web is filled with stuff so ugly it hurts your eyes to look at it. Ever since the web started up, the term "designer" changed from someone who went to school for graphic design to anyone who can export a Word document into HTML. There are many people on the net who claim to be web designers, but are still looking for their first job and barely know how to drag and drop an image in FrontPage. Just do a search for "web design" and you'll see what I’m talking about.

Many people think that they can save a few bucks by hiring someone with less experience to create their web site, but before you hire designer, or let one of your employees take a whack at your web site, here are some things that you should ask them:

Have they designed web sites for different companies and individuals? Do they have an extensive portfolio that shows the images that they have created for others? Do they know all of the latest HTML tags and browser compatibility issues? Can they also create custom illustrations, logos and animations from scratch? Do they know how to make your site interactive with Java, Java Script, CGI? Do they offer fast loading pages, image optimization and time saving tricks? Do they have $1,000's of dollars worth of the latest software and know how to use it to achieve the best results? Are they going to be around in a few months when you need to make a change to your web site? Do they honestly know what it will take to get your site to succeed and make you money?

I can proudly answer YES to all of these questions, as well as many more that I have left out. You only have one chance at impressing a customer and if you don't do it in the first few seconds then you have most likely lost them forever.

You may say: "I don't need a very professional looking site, just one that works" - If you are thinking that, then erase that thought from your head. You’re wrong. A bad web site is just like a bad flyer. It gets tossed in the garbage instantly and you have lost that sale/visitor forever. If you are going to spend the money, then do it right the first time.
If your site is well designed and well marketed, then it will make you money and it will pay for itself in a few months. I've seen it happen time and time again.

Let's be honest, most internet web sites are not making money. Why not?
Because the lack of a well designed site is a lack of good marketing. I can offer you both. I've spent tons of time investigating what works and what doesn't work on a web site. Do you think that my site gets over 20,000 hits a week just because it got lucky? Nope, it's the fact that I know what works and what doesn't and I apply these things to my site to make it successful.
